Great corded sander!
Great little palm sander. Plenty of power and I really like the variable speed. And you know with a name like DeWalt you can depend on if for years of trouble free service.

Avid Do-it-Yourselfer
so far so good...
After purchase i used this sander to sand the deck of my 10x18 foot front porch. I used it for three days, about 12 hours total running time with ambient temperatures in the 90s. The sander worked well with no problems. I've rated it as 4 stars and will possibly add a fifth after i see how long it will last. So far so good....

A step down from previous model
This sander sands very well, and that is not an issue. There is no way to predict durability after a few hours of use, but this sander does not appear to be as well built as the DW423, an earlier model. What I take exception to are the following downgrades to usability compared to the DW423 orbital sander:
The cord is at least a couple of feet shorter than the DW423 cord.
No hard case. Instead you get a bag.
The sander won't sit flat for a disc change when turned over. The flat top is gone on this model. Now you need a third hand to hold the sander while you change the disc.
The dust port has no way to attach a hose, unlike the DW423 which comes with built-in hose connectors. You will have to buy an expensive adapter (at about $20) to attach a vacuum hose, and another adapter (at about $12) from the vacuum hose to the adapter.
Not having a hose adapter, I had to make do with a vacuum hose that kind of stayed in place but often came loose. Maybe that's why I had a LOT more dust everywhere. After I get an adapter and try sanding some more I'll see if the problem was the hose or the sander not doing a very good job of collecting dust.
Finally, there is NO way to identify exactly WHICH adapter fits this sander. No info in user manual or on this website.

Just received this palm sander, after using a much cheaper product.
The Dewalt is much smoother, and far easier to use, collects the dust better.
Just a better piece of equipment overall, wished I have bought one ages ago.

Hard working sander!
I bought this sander after another one I owned (from a different company) broke during operation. This is a superior product and made the project a breeze. It does, however, lack on dust collection, but we don't do these jobs to look pretty!

Lacking dust collector attachment
I have been using the DeWalt sanders for many years, and was able to attach my central vac. system without any special adaptors. The new DWE6423K is not a standard size outlet, therefore I cannot connect it to my dust collector Poor design. DeWalt needs an adaptor to attach to a 2 1/4" dust collector hose.

thought it would rotate to polish but not. it just shakes and shimmies and rotates very slowly to be useless. The velcro pads. OMG- what a cheap way to attach any kind of polishing; pad or anything you want to tie on . NEVER have a switch that latches on; after you loose power. What are we thinking here

If I want to attach this to a small Shop Vac hose, what adapters do I need? And if I want to attach it to a normal large Shop Vac hose, which ones do I need?
Brithedark on Nov 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: To connect to an external vacuum, you may need a reducer, but the answer depends on the diameter of the hose that you are connecting to. The same scenario applies to a larger vacuum.
I want to attach my Dewalt DWE6423K to my shop vac. The shop vac hose is 1.5" ID. Which adapter do I need?
