I do a lot of fret work. Taking the blade loose to pass it through a hole and then re-attaching it has always been a long process... until I bought the DW788, that is! All I have to do is loosen the tension lever and turn a thumb screw. The blade stays attached at the bottom, and slides right back into place once I’ve passed it through a small hole in my workpiece. Then it’s just a turn or two of the thumb screw, the turning the tension lever back to the number I had it set on, and I’m back at cutting again! Love it! I also love the fact that the area underneath the table is open and not boxed in, so it’s easy to clean up. I rigged up a hose from my shop vac that connects to a 1” hose with a “Tee” and ran one side to the top and the other to the bottom. A few pvc insert fittings, hose clamps, and zip ties have made my saw nearly 100% dust free! And that’s really important to me, especially because I cut a lot of hardboard and MDF, which creates a powdery dust that covers everything...and is dangerous to breathe!

Not worth the money
I've had my scroll saw for a few years. It's been used lightly; and I mean lightly. It is housed in my basement which is climate controlled. With that being said; I have found that DeWalts product quality isn't what it use to be. Issues I'm having with mine: thumb screws that hold the blades in place loosen constantly; air hose keeps breaking a section at a time. AND It makes this nasty noise when you turn it on.

Phenominal Saw/Bad Marketing Cost You
Best recent purchase. Saw is 5+ star. Marketing is poor, to say the least. EXTRAS?? NO light, NO lifter, NO stand, uncomfortable knobs! Need actual round knobs, instead of "T" bolts. Better PR for you to include some items. Updates only improve your product.

Enjoy using my DW788
I enjoy using my DW788 scroll saw. It is powerful and the variable speeds allow me to adjust the speed to fit my skill. It is easy to use.

Smooth and accurate
My first saw was a cheap one, second was an old model that costs more than the Dewalt, more power and more aggressive cut, but blade wobbled and cut erratic, and the wobble caused the blade to bind on the work and lift it up and down. So I bought a Dewalt. Virtually no lateral movement with blade. Just a little pressure keeps work from lifting.Very little vibration. Able to cut much more accurately. It is a slower cut in the 1" ebony, ash, bubinga I am cutting, but that's ok, as long as it cuts true. Up front controls, variable speed, and a swingarm that flips up, all make it even better. I am surprised that there is not a dust collection port, or a latch to hold the upper arm up. But I am retired, and capable of making both, so just merely surprised.

The saw is very easy to work with, would think that a saw costing over $450.00 would come with a Lifting Arm ( to hold arm up whenough needed while doing fret work), a dust collection system- not even a place to hook up a shop saw,had to buy dust collection system, and Lift Bar. Saw should come with work lights, had to buy these also. The saw itself works nicely, but if I had known all what I know now,I would have kept my money, and "tuned -up" my Delta saw ( these 2 are identical, except for the color. Oh yes, forgot to say bigger knobs for the Blade fixture,I had to buy these extra also $35.00. Shop around.. Delta can be gotten cheaper sometimes, while preform to your needs very well.
All this is JUST MY OPINION..

Dewalt Scroll Saw
Smooth running with quiet operation as compared to other scroll saws I have checked. The unit is stout which is great for using, but needs a little planning as to where you are going to put it in your shop as mobility could be a problem. After that you will never regret it.

Will this saw ship to Singapore?

BEST ANSWER: Cpo does not ship outside of the USA. Please contact Dewalt directly for more shipping options. 800-433-9258
I understand the overall length of the saw is approximately 29". This would include the plate which sticks out over the base. I need to know the length of the base to see if it will fit on my 24" deep work bench. Thank you...
marti on Feb 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: From stem to stern the saw is 33" overall. The base is 25.5" long and
10.5" wide. It's a great saw, so if you have to bolt it to a piece of
plywood and then screw that to the bench it would do you well.
Does if have the ability to use spiral blade to cut in any direction?
paul M on Jan 16, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I haven't tried to use a spiral blade. If they are available for this saw I am sure it would work. By using the double parking technique or the u turn moves you can turn/saw in any direction. If you can get a spiral blade to fit the saw
you should have no problem.
Is there a port to connect to dust collector?

Can you use jeweler's saw blades so you can cut through metal like silver and brass? Can it handle very small blades?
Liz the metalsmith on Jul 19, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The DeWalt DW788 uses "plain end" or "straight" type blades.
Will the Dewalt scroll saw fit my current stand (Sears/Craftsman contractor series 20 variable speed saw) which I have on hand now? I am wanting to replace my current scroll saw that I mentioned with the Dewalt dw788 will it fit my stand
Marty on Oct 18, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm your current scroll saw stands compatibility. Our best advise would be to use the dimensions of Dewalt's scroll saw stand and compare those dimensions to your scroll saw stand. The dimensions for Dewalt's stand is:
34.2 x 5.9 x 4.1 inches (L x W x H)
