Excellent Cordless Saw
I purchased this chainsaw about a month ago and have used it on and off for two days straight with zero issues. I would have given a five star rating but they only give you a regular charger (DCB115) with this kit. All my other Flexvolt purchases/kits came with a fast charging (DCB118) battery charger. Why doesn't this kit come with one?

The only cons I can think of for this saw is that the chain loosens quickly, leaving the user to tighten it often or it'll slipe off the bar. It does use a considerable amount of oil but the resivor isn't that big to start with.

Bought this, was excited at first.

Terribly designed. Leaks a tremendous amount of bar oil. It's good to have enough oil getting onto the chain, but this things gets covered in oil, and gets oil everywhere when I store or transport. There is no oil stop.

Chain slips between washer and fly wheel, even though I check the bolt that holds the washer and fly wheel for tightness before and after each use.

Over heats extremely fast. Constantly shutting off due to over heating. I also have 6 ah batteries and 9 ah batteries. Both sizes last same amount of time due to batteries shutting down from overheating.

I bought this as a light duty chain saw to keep in truck, and not worry about gas and oil spilling. Well with as much oil that immediately leaks all over the bottom after filling for use, I am forced to keep the chain saw on old rags and towels to prevent getting oil on everything.

This is the biggest waste of money I've ever spent. At this point I"m thinking about throwing this in the garbage. I can't believe how much the saw and batteries cost me just to be completely useless. I ended up buying a harbor frieght electric chainsaw for at home, and that thing works circles around this Dewalt flexvolt chainsaw.

Saw runs great. No problems with initial use. Cuts 8" diameter seasoned logs with ease. Battery time is short, but okay for small jobs. A second battery would a must for extended use.

Awesome tool but the oiler stopped dispensing
I use this tool all the time from on the job site to around the house. It worked great for the first couple months, then I noticed my oil reservoir wasn't going through any oil. I brought it to the Dewal repair shop in Anchorage, but that didn't seem to fix the issue. As a result my bar is showing a little more wear. Not a big deal. The tool is still preforming with out a hiccup. My 9ah battery that came with it stopped taking a charge. The dewalt store said they would send me a new one free of charge. Still waiting patiently.

Great tool
Bought this chainsaw a few months ago and it has been meeting my demands everytime. The chainsaws battery life cant keep up with a gas powered chainsaw but I have multiple batteries and chargers so I can work non stop with it. I'd say it gets about 20 or so cuts on a 12 inch log per charge on 6 amp hr battery depending on sharpness of the chain. Its definately useful when only needing to make a few cuts instead of using a gas one that needs to be warmed up before use.

Only downside of this chainsaw is that you need to empty the bar oil after each use otherwise what's left in it slowly leaks out.

Overall great product for those not using chainsaw full time and dont like dealing with mixed fuel gas ones.

I actually own a few of these.

I'll start with the good. Its not gas, no fumes and it just works until it doesn't. No mixing gas, changing oil. Just charge battery, add chain oil and go.

Good power out of the box,
Battery has good life(at first) and you can compare it with a mid grade gas saw for normal use.
Handles hardwood(maple, oak, etc) like a champ.

Over time here are some of the issues this saw has:

The unit has a front Emergency stop paddle, this has failed to stay in the functional position on two of my saws now. It feels like a cheap plastic lock that just wears down with normal use and then stops working.
The quick release for the chain failed on one of my units.
The chain tensioner failed on one of my units.
The batteries lose longevity within a year they are performing at about 50% of what they were when they were new. Pretty disapointing considering the batteries are $150/ea.
The bar chain mechanism has too much plastic and so the bar chain does not stay in position as it should. This is sort of hard to discribe without seeing it for yourself. Its just CHEAP design. Dewalt could have spent another $5 and did it all metal, I would be happy to pay more for something that was better quality especually since not many options exist for high power battery chainsaws.

Not a huge issue but the auto-oiler gets clogged and needs to be blown out with a compresser quite often.

Complete value and performance.
Really really impressed with this saw. I use it for trimming and cutting a bit of firewood at a time. Very capable and so quiet. Plus no fighting with starting. A great deal.

Guaranteed tough? Take a look inside...
I'm super disappointed with this chainsaw. It has plenty of power and would be perfect for the work I do around the house. The price is right too. But it's just not built to last.

I ignored the reviews about problems with fully charging the battery, leaking bar oil, the saw just cutting out and not starting. It seems that the saw will not work if the battery isn't charged to a certain level. There should be some light or indicator of this. Otherwise I thought maybe there was a short in the switch. The problem was the battery wouldn't fully charge the first time. I plugged it in, waited a few hours and saw that the light was solid on the charger. Tested the battery, and it only had one bar. It wouldn't charge anymore. So, I only got 30 minutes of work. I started to remember the reviews about this problem. That caused me to investigate further. I came across a video where the saw was deconstructed to reveal really flimsy parts. Look up BOLTR: DeWalt Chainsaw Engineering Fail.

I'm really sad that I can't add this chainsaw - which again, is more than adequate power wise - to my collection of DeWalt power tools. Hopefully they'll make a chainsaw that lives up to their name in the near future...

I live in the middle of a ten acre forrest and have owned my chainsaw for about 3 months. I’m pretty sure that you can’t be any rougher on a tool than I have with this saw. I have used it more in 3 months than most people would in a couple of years. Its is so simple to use and maintain, it doesn’t leak chain lube all over like my other chainsaws. The battery life is great, I always take 2 freshly changed 60v batteries with me and usually by the time that I’m halfway through my second battery I’m too tired to cut anymore so the batteries last longer than me! No hassles of starting and stopping like you have with gas. This is my favorite chainsaw and would recommend to anyone, this thing is tough.
