Great Idea, POOR Execution
The adapter is unnecessarily bulky and nearly impossible to get free from the tool. The easiest way is to grab the tool between your knees and push the locking tabs in with both thumbs and rock it out. The clips are poorly designed, sometimes I can't get them to release. The batteries, when new and fresh would not hold a full charge (3 indicator lights) When fully charged on the included charger, the indicator showed only 2 lights. They were stamped as manufactured within 1 month of purchase, and self discharge within a day or two sitting on the shelf. They looked like a good way to get the longer life Li-ion batteries for my (7) 18V Dewalt tools. The 4+ amp batteries do fully charge (3 LED's light up) and don't discharge sitting on a shelf in a temperature controlled environment.

Did the job for me
Every single tool I own are DeWALT 18v. I wasn’t able to find a replacement 18v so I purchased the kit. Yes, the adapter is extremely tight so it was difficult to snap into place. Well it was just as difficult to release. I would rather it be snug than falling out during use. My point, it’s a positive safety feature for me. The biggest advantage for me is the fact that I don’t have to buy ALL new tools, when the ones I own work perfectly fine.

Better be tough.
I purchased this just a little over a year ago and love the concept but to switch the adapter part from tool to tool is so difficult that if I don't have large channel locks to push the release tabs I can't get the part out to switch to another tool.
An unfortunately one of the battery's is failing already.
I quit buying dewalt years ago because of their batterys never held a charge well and before long they wouldn't take any charge so I switched brands .

My son just purchased a lot of there battery operated tools and I saw assembled in usa sticker on one of the tools and I like that and even if not all there tools aren't made here or assembled here at least it's more then any of the other brands can say. I was going to switch to dewalt line but I am concerned about the reliablety of there batterys.
But I am impressed buy Dwelt of at least supporting our country where and when they can and that means a lot to me.

I bought 2 of these 20V drills but after using them for an hour or so, they lose their speed. I keep having go change the batteries and its a pain. I like DeWalt tools and own quite a few but this model drill is a disappointment. The charger is a little awkward to load with one hand, it takes 2 and still a bit awkward.

Great, but with limits.
At first look this is a great option. I have 5 different tools which this works with and yes the adaptor is difficult to get out and if you leave the battery inside when not in use it will discharge. But these are simple issues to deal with, just take the battery out when not in use and buy an additional one so you don't have to switch them out as much. I have two of them for 5 tools.
However, the adaptor limits the power going through it and shuts the tool down for a couple of seconds and then comes back. This gets quite irritating when you trying to use the tool under high torque conditions. My screw gun, sawsall and hammerdrill all exibit this behavior. My screw gun(DC668) and Circular Saw(DW936) my favorite tools to use really bring this out. When the tool starts to really draw power under heavier torque conditions they constanly cut out. If you put one of the stock 18v XR batteries back in it, the tools work without flaw. Its not the 20 max batteries either because it does this on all 4 of them.

This adaptor should have performed equal to or better than the 18v nicad batteries, but the performance drop is just simply not worth the price.

I love this adapter because I can still use my old set of tools. Sure it’s hard to remove and the big burly man said it takes him 3 minutes to get it off. Well over time it loosens up and isnt so hard to remove. If a girl like me can remove it I’m sure you men can.... js... I love it!

Impossible to remove
I bought this product only because there were no 18-volt replacement batteries available anywhere locally. Was informed by the salesperson at Lowe's that DeWalt would no longer be manufacturing 18-volt replacements and that I would have to buy the 20-volt with the adapter and new charger. The new 20-volt seems to have less power and run time than a comparable new 18-volt. More importantly, the adapter design is flawed. It is virtually impossible to remove from the tool even after removing the battery first. My guess is DeWalt is forcing consumers to purchase an adapter for each tool. Not exactly a customer first policy.
