Good option to extend life of older tools
I have several 18 volt tools that although are not the latest technology, they are adequate for a DIYer like myself. This is a good way to extend their life and serve as a bridge to the newer line of tools. I don’t leave batteries attached to the adapter based on comments in previous reviews. The adapter is sometimes difficult to remove from the tool due to the strong latching mechanism.

Great option for 18v but how about 14v hand drill?
I have 2 set of hand drills, one is 18v and the other is 14v. The 14v is hard to find the battery for it now, it's become useless with no battery. however I like the 14v more than the 18v. I wonder why Dewalt don't make this adapter for the 14v hand drill?

The use of 20 volt batteries on 18 volt DeWalt tools makes the tools more useful. 20 volt batteries lighter and extended life.

Great Idea, POOR Execution
The adapter is unnecessarily bulky and nearly impossible to get free from the tool. The easiest way is to grab the tool between your knees and push the locking tabs in with both thumbs and rock it out. The clips are poorly designed, sometimes I can't get them to release. The batteries, when new and fresh would not hold a full charge (3 indicator lights) When fully charged on the included charger, the indicator showed only 2 lights. They were stamped as manufactured within 1 month of purchase, and self discharge within a day or two sitting on the shelf. They looked like a good way to get the longer life Li-ion batteries for my (7) 18V Dewalt tools. The 4+ amp batteries do fully charge (3 LED's light up) and don't discharge sitting on a shelf in a temperature controlled environment.
