Extremely disappointed
Bought this in May 2019 after reading all the reviews and researching on line. I had a Delta 12 1/2" planer for the past 21 years, but it finally died and couldn't be repaired. I was very excited to use this, but find it trips under even the lowest load (1/32"). I assumed it was because I was originally using teak so suffered through taking two hours to dimension some rough cut lumber that would have taken my old Delta less than 20 minutes. This weekend I tried it with a piece of 7" wide 4/4 poplar and it stalls constantly even if I'm taking a cut that barely registers (<1/32"). It also now leave black marks at times on the wood (not burning). Not sure what the issue is, but something is not right and as I'm just past my 90 days, I cannot return it. Looks like I'm going to have to take it to a dealer to see if they can figure out what's what. It's my first DeWalt tool and I would not recommend.

Prior to this planer, I have owned 4 others. I used it for the first time yesterday and found that it works better than any other that I have used. I left almost no snipe, which I always had trouble with on the others.

Will say more after I have used it more.

I was sold on the idea of it having 2 speeds.. I have mine on a homemade pullout drawer in my small workshop. I wish the chip discharge had an elbow that could be turned to have the vac hose out of the way of the board exit.

Great Planer !!
This is by far the best planer I have ever owned, been woodworking over 35 years, owned many planers, delta, grizzly, wen, older model dewalts, this is by far the best of them all, its just a joy to operate, sturdy built, moves up & down very smoothly, super smooth finish on the boards, very little snipe, I really like the blower that ejects the sawdust, I installed a 4 inch flexible hose on the dust port and vented it into a 50 gallon craftsman plastic tote, works perfect, I would say around 98% dust efficient, this will probally be my last planer purchase, couldnt be more pleased, probally the best purchase I ever made in woodworking.

I read so many good reviews on this I decided to get one for myself. I am super impressed with this beast. It was great out of the box. I also got the stand and the infeed/outfeed tables. So happy with whole deal!

Very Nice
I really like this planer. I had a Ryobi that worked well, for a while. My issue with the DW735X is the powerful discharge is so strong that when I hook it up to my shop.van 6.5hp vacuum, the shop vac blows saw dust at the gasket. It didn't with the Ryobi. I am trying to find a solution without a dust collection system.

Maximum width material planer can handle?
A shopper on Jun 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Dewalt states 6" however I have never surfaced anything above 4" and it did a great job. A 6" timber of of oak in a longer length I believe would put undo stress on the unit.
