Great battery powered trimmer
I've had this battery powered trimmer for three years. It has great power! I have a big house and yard and this trimmer will easily trim it all with only one or two batteries.

I have 1/3 acre of grass that I maintain weekly. The trimmer gets plenty of use. The first one I owned had an issue with the motor and was quickly replaced at the local dewalt repair shop (no charge and then my second one has lasted me about 3 years so far! I have paired this with the dewalt lawnmower and they all use the same batteries so that keeps my garage nice and neat. Love dewalt and their support behind their products!

I bought this in the spring and have used it all summer. Very happy with its performance. Has to restring it in August. I bought Dewalt replacement string and rewound the original spool. This worked great, and a real savings over a new head.

After a few good uses, trimmer line won't feed
The non-removable head is a HORRIBLE concept. Grass and weed debris easily gets in the space above the head and the thing above it, and the "bump" doesn't work at all, and it will not turn at all like it is supposed to load line into it. Reloading the trimmer line into it is a very cumbersome two-person process. This is not the quality i was expecting from DeWalt. It worked great for 91 days and then it starting becoming just like all my other junk trimmers i've ever owned. I can't even attach a rino tuff head to it because it has a "screw you" non-removable head. DeWalt doesn't even make an alternative head for easier trimmer mechanisms, but if they did, it would probably not have means to attach on this trimmer. So I'm going to think twice about buying Dewalt again, despite all the batteries I've purchased, and despite the good use I've gotten from the corded reciprocating saw and the cordless drill I have. Poor design and a lost investment. I'm back to manually tugging out line after every 5 minutes of use.

Slowly converting over to all 20v DeWalt from the hodgepodge of tools. This was the latest. 2 weeks ago I got this an it seems to do fine on Lo speed, but used it on Hi and it was able to cut thru the weeds that haven't been touched all year. Some people mentioned the manual doesn't match the head, but mine did. I think there was an error and old manuals were shipped with new trimmers. After 2 times around my 1/2 acre yard, I still had 1 bar left on the battery.

Major fail by Dewalt
I got my first one two years ago. That one failed due to a common problem of the barring's failing. Ok, so I bought this unit. It has a different head. This head froze up after very little use. I have tried to clean it out but I cannot fully remove all the grass and such caught under the spindle. That leaves me with a trimmer that works great but when I need more line I have to remove the line cap cover, pull out more line, and put the cap cover back on. I have other DeWalt battery power products including a 40V light duty chain saw and a 40V blower. They are great. This product? No. Don't buy it. You will regret your decision just as I do.

Love it
I love this trimmer. I can’t wait to use it every time I mow. It’s light and I don’t have to bend over much cause it’s perfect length. I’m 6’ 4 and not much for bending down.

Great trimmer
I got this for free Father’s Day and love it. It’s plenty powerful, even compared to gas trimmers. It has 2 speeds and does well on both. The only improvement I would suggest is a wheel to use as a guide like I’ve seen on some smaller battery trimmers. Otherwise, I’m thrilled

Surprising power and battery life
I was needing a good weed trimmer but didn't want the hassle of dealing with gas and oil. I purchased this trimmer on sale and figured I'd give it a try. The first time I used it I was amazed. It definitely doesn't have the same power as a gas trimmer but I expected that. Don't let that fool you though, it is a powerful trimmer. I was tackling 3 to 4 ft tall weeds with ease for a solid 40 minutes. Once I was finished the battery was still showing 1/3 battery life. It amazed me. Great power, long battery life, and very lightweight. Plus, I can expand to all the other DeWalt tools and use the same battery and charger.

Does it use a pre-loaded spool or simply buy separate line?
Sherry B on Jun 15, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello, mine came with a bump spool that I would wind on more string when it used up the line on the spool. I replaced the bump head with a Craftsman Hassle Free III Trimmer Line head. If you do that, you will need a nylon bushing from any QP Ace Hardware for about .39 cents.
Are there any optional attachments for the Dewalt 20V trimmer instead of the string line? I love the string, but sometimes would like more.

BEST ANSWER: Unfortunately, attachments are not available for this trimmer
Bare tool means battery not included?
Moyra b on Jun 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes. The bare tool means there are no batteries. If you already own a dewalt power tool that takes a 20V Max Li-I battery (amps do not matter) then it will be compatible with this.
I have a recent model DeWalt cordless drill with 20V battery pack. It doesn't say 5A on the battery I have. Will it fit and power this tool? If so, will it work for decent amount of time? I have a very small yard.
ChillyWilly on Jun 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes. As long as the battery is 20v and Li-Ion
How to change the string?
A shopper on Mar 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: You will have the instructions inside the manual to replace the string. If you need any further assistance, you can contact the technician directly at 1-800-433-9258.
How long can it run while ime trimming until I would recharge it again and does it have other attachment?
Bob rock on Jul 30, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That depends on the battery used. Dewalt offers (5) 20v batteries that vary in Amp Hours. To acquire the longest run time, we would recommend purchasing the 5 amp hr battery (model DCB205) that could extend your run period for 60-65 minutes depending on how it's used.
Will regular 18v batteries work with this tool or do they have to be 20v lithium ion?
Shawn on Jul 18, 2016
BEST ANSWER: no, the battery has to be 20V to work with the tool
Can you also reference the battery and charger that goes with this item? I would need to purchase those separately correct?
donna on Jun 7, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Home Depot has a kit with the trimmer "Tool" , charger and one 5AH Battery for $199.99 I just picked it up along with a few others. I am not sure if the deal they had is still going on but they offered an additional 3AH Battery for free with the Trimmer Kit I bought there. I highly recommend this trimmer from Dewalt; the ability to walk around the yard without a cord attached and without having to deal with a gas powered engine and still obtain this amount of power really makes the chore of trimming your lawn kind of fun. Buy one you won't be disappointed, and Definitely try to use the 5AH Batteries over the lower amp ones, This greatly improves the run time & performance of this tool.
Will the 20 v battery used to power other tools work in the weedeater
Julie on May 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The battery can be used with any compatible 20v Max unit.
what is the warranty
Dan on Jul 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Dewalt tools comes with a 3 year warranty.
