A Great Mower with Totally Deficient Batteries
Dewalt sabotaged this product by shipping it with totally anemic 20 volt 5 AH batteries. The batteries that shipped with it are fine for blowers, drills, impact drivers etc. But they are totally inadequate for the mower and result in poor ratings. Whoever at Dewalt decided to ship this with the 20 volt 5 amp batteries should be fired. Luckily before I ordered it, I read the comments of people who used Flexvolt batteries and they were fine.

I am a Dewalt user who owns 5 Flexvolt batteries (3-6AH and 2-9AH. With these batteries, the mower is awesome.

Pros (using Flexvolt batteries)
1) I was able to cut long grass on a ¼ acre lot using the 9AH Flexvolt batteries with power to spare. We repeated the performance on my son's ¼ acre lot. Run time was over 45 minutes.
2) I purposefully cut wet, long grass with the mulching attachment and the mower had plenty of power even in tall grass.
3) The mower did not bog down in sedge grass that would stall my Toro mower
4) The mower is easier to push than my Toro Personal Pace mower because it is light and has larger wheels on the back. I have a 10 foot hill in my back yard and even that was a breeze.
5) The mower is quiet. I'm not sure how many decibels but you don't need to wear hearing protection like a regular mower.
6) The mower cut every kind of grass and weeds we threw at it without slowing down. I have St Augustine (coarse grass) and Zoysia fine grass in my yard. My son used it to mow his weed patch and he commented how it just breezed through everything.
7) It cut much faster than my Toro Personal Pace mower. My son commented the same thing that it cut really fast because your didn't have to slow down and it's light.
8) Storage is is simple and easy and there is no gas so you can store it vertically in the garage. This also lets it dry if you hose it off after doing the lawn.
9) Adjusting the cut height is super easy
10) I gave the mower the acid test to make sure I was ready to go electric before getting rid of my gas mower. The mower exceeded my expectations.
11) I will never need to fool with gas, oil, starting issues, cleaning air filters, changing oil, changing plug, smelly gas in the car and excess noise again. Priceless.

Cons;
1) if you use the 5AH batteries provided they will get HOT and give out very quickly. Flexvolts only get a bit warm and work great.
2) Even without the mulcher insert, the grass quickly jams the discharge chute and it becomes a muncher. The grass catcher is not very big.
3) It is slightly narrower (20 inch) than my prior mower. Requires and extra strip or two in the front lawn.

Good Mower, Bad Batteries.
I have had my mower for a few months now. The mower itself has lots of power and is good but the batteries that come with are not of adequate size. Also only one charger for the two batteries and not even a fast charger. I would not recommend unless you are willing to purchase extra batteries or already have extra 5ah or higher batteries. It takes me three charges to do an average size lot in a trailer court with the batteries provided.

Works great for the job at hand
Second time mowing, can finish full yard on the 5 amp hours batteries. City lot; lots of berms so this isn't a very large yard. Noise level is much better than gas mower this replaced, neighbor commented same. Wish that they put a little more engineering into the top plastic battery hatch cover. When closed and rolling over bumpy areas the rattling noise it makes is disappointing. Also wish the batteries that came with it said 2019 versus the 2018 batteries that I received.

Fathers Day gift, works great.
6-2019, Fathers Day gift replaced my old gas mower and Stihl 2 stroke trimmer. Was concerned about the battery life in the other reviews, but decided to give it a try as I have other DeWalt tools. Yard measures about 35x35, or say two 30'x20' sections, equaling about 1200sq'. (This is about 3/100ths of an acre (.027acre). Suburban home with typical front and back yard. For reference, 1/4 acre (.25) = 10,980sq' or about 100'x100' lawn).

I don't know what it is rated for, but with the 2 supplied 20v 5ah batteries in it, my son mowed the lawn in 20 minutes, and still had 2 battery lights left out of 3, indicating it only used 1/3rd of the capacity to do a typical home lawn. It completely filled the bag, FULL, and emptied like a breeze, where my old one was always tough to empty. With batteries, it weighs about the same as my Craftsman gas mower, but pushes easily.

Quiet, no gas or oil, handle folds easily, and I love that you can store it upright, on end, as it is made to stand up.

In addition to the mower, the new 20v Dewalt trimmer is lighter than my gas Stihl, no blue smoke and oil, and trims the whole yard and still shows a near FULL Charge. It seems easier to handle and more precise near the flowers, etc., so the wife loves it if I don't cut the flowers off...

Overall, presently surprised, hopefully the batteries will last for years like my other Dewalt tools have, only time will tell.

Believe for the typical suburban homeowner, the supplied 20v 5ah batteries will be more than enough, again, we had 2 battery bars left out of 3 when finished mowing the front and back yard, about 20 minutes and 1 week growth of lawn after rain that week so it was pretty long. Filled large bag catcher completely.

Listed my trusty gas mower, and pro grade Stihl trimmer on craigslist and sold in 1 day, so no looking back now...:)

Perfect for my small city lot
I was already invested in the DeWalt 20v battery system, so this lawnmower was a natural choice. The bagging and mulching systems work just as well as my old gas Honda. The mower is light enough that it does not need to be self-propelled. It folds up neatly so I can carry it downstairs for storage in the corner of my basement. The two 5ah batteries are just sufficient to mow my small 5600 square-foot (0.13 acre lot in a single charge I love that they are interchangeable with my other tools. I do think DeWalt ought to include larger batteries. My lot is tiny, but if it was any larger, I would not be able to mow in a single charge.

Buyer beware!
There is nothing wrong with the mower itself, it is a decent and easy to use piece of equipment.
The problem is with the battery system that DeWalt decided to use for this mower.
Why a company would include 2 batteries and only 1 battery-at-a-time charger is ridiculous! This mower charging system is NOT user friendly. It takes about 1 hour to recharge a battery X 2 batteries, the user is down 2 hours from mowing. Not only that, the 5 AH run time is only about 20 min and boom, the user is back in the recharging cycle. Unbelievable!
I returned my machine to the retailer from which I purchased the unit.
I am looking at competitors brands now!
Stay away from this mower.

Batteries and charger
This mower does a get job, mowing. However the batteries do not discharge equally and the mower comes with a single battery charger. I have a cordless miter saw that came with a dual battery charger, so I know that it is available. I have to charge one battery overnight, and then switch them out for another day. This is very inconvenient, as it needs to be done every week. A dual charge would be a great improvement. Better yet, an option to charge the batteries in the mower. At a minimum, the mower should come with a set of back up batteries. If I run out of juice before completing the lawn, I have to wait two days, to recharge, to finish the job. I am very disappointed with DeWalt for cutting corners on this. I hope this policy is not going to be DeWalts new business plan.

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 120 days.
