Dissappointed
I bought this for my husband back in dec 2016. It has only been used a few times. We recently needed to use it and went to charge the battery and the battery charger wont work. Im dissappointed because a new battery and charger are more than half the cost of what I paid for the kit to begin with. Wish it lasted more than a few uses.

DeWalt 1/4" impact
I have had nothing but great experiences with various products from the 20V line of DeWalt cordless tools, but my hands down favorite would be the 1/4" impact. This thing works beautifully as a nut driver, and combined with my 1/2" impact, I am hardly ever using my pneumatic tools anymore.

All I use
I've been using dewalt impact drivers since the 18v and I upgraded to 20v. I use it every day and the only thing that's happened was two LEDs dont light anymore. Only the bottom light works which honestly isnt a big deal since the older versions only had one light to begin with.
Other than normal wear and tear this drill has some power. I'm not trying to win races versing other brands to save .002 seconds at the end of a day. I like the durability and how comfortable the drill is to use.
I've recommended to guys at work and now pretty much everyone is on dewalt now whi h is great because every tool is useable with the same batteries and chargers.

Great Little Workhorse
I bought this a few days ago to build a dog run. I'm so glad I did. It's ideal for a woman DIY-selfer because it weighs less than many of the others I looked at. This thing is a little powerhouse. I installed 6" screws at an angle to connect 4"x4"x8' boards. The screws went in without an issue. Wished I would've bought one of these YEARS ago.

what difference does brushless make?
A shopper on May 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Brushless motors offer several advantages over brushed motors thanks to the design. Much of it has to do with the loss of brushes and commutator. Since the brush is required to be in contact with the commutator to deliver a charge, it also causes friction. Friction reduces the speed that can be achieved along with building up heat. It’s like riding your bike with the brake lightly applied. Given the same amount of effort from your legs, you’ll be slower. Conversely, if you want to maintain the speed, it will take more energy from your legs. You’ll also heat up your rims from the frictional heat. This means that brushless motors run cooler and more efficiently so they’re able to deliver more power.

The carbon brushes wear down over time. It’s what causes a spark inside some tools. In order to keep the tool running, the brushes have to be replaced once in a while. Brushless motors don’t require that maintenance.

While brushless motors requires an electronic controller, the rotor/stator combination is more compact. That leads to the opportunity for lighter weight and more compact size.
Will this impact only use 1" long straight bits or can it use the interchangeable notched bits?
A shopper on Feb 13, 2019
BEST ANSWER: 1/4 inch impacts such as this will use the notched bits as you asked, these lock in securely per the positive lock quick release chuck that is mounted on the impact.
Can this tool use the MAX XR series batteries?
jrm_2 on Dec 3, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, model DCF885C1 will accept the XR batteries.
Does this have variable speed?
A shopper on Jun 10, 2017
BEST ANSWER: You can vary the speed by how much you pull on the trigger but it does not have any other speed settings.
Is it brushless?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No....this Impact Driver is not Brushless.
How do I remove the bit?
A shopper on Jul 22, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Pull the shank where the bit connects and pull it outwards and the bit can then be released. Got me the first time too.
Does it work as a drill?
A shopper on Dec 25, 2016
BEST ANSWER: yes what i like about this is when installing cabinets it drives 3" screws much better and faster than just a drill.
