Keeping my old tools alive!
I am so happy I picked up this adaptor! I had a nice set of old 18v drills and an impact, but the old batteries just couldn't hold a charge for more than 5 minutes. While I did end up getting a new 20V Max drill and impact, my old tools still had life left in them. Enter this adaptor. It allows me to use my new 20v batteries and have back up tools, or have a double set of tools for a big job. The only down side to this adaptor that I have found is the added mass to the tool, but that is a given. The reduced size of the Li-Ion battery pack helps make up for that. I have used this for close to a year now, and have yet to have any troubles with it.

Work well
My second adapter. Both work well but the first one i purchased will discharge the battery if stored inserted. Don't yet know about the new one. My original was purchased when they first became available. In fact I waited several months for my preorder to arrive. Cosmetically they are awkward looking when assembled.

Won’t work with 6ah batteries
Bought 2 of these over a year ago and they have worked fine. They are extremely difficult to remove once you put in the 18 volt tool. The frustrating thing is I bought 2 6ah batteries and they won’t fit in the adapter.

Needs to be recalled!
Like so many people have said, this is such a good idea if you could use the darn thing. Once it is in the tool you can't remove it without a lot of effort, where was the quality control on this product? Dewalt should recall this item and go back to the drawing board!

Dewalt battery adapter
I have several 18v tools in need of battery replacement. Upgraded to 20v system with this adapter. So far, works great.

Doesn't work well but at least it was expensive.
Disappointed again. 24v Battery charge drains very quickly when used in conjunction with the adapter and 18v tools and so far it has been impossible to remove once installed, making it useless for all the other 18v DeWalt tools i have, requiring I buy a separate for each 18v tool. Switching to Porter- Cable tools ASAP

Great Idea - Very Poor Implementation
The concept of extending our DeWalt product lifetime by using a more modern 20V battery is right on target. But whoever designed the mechanical interface to the 18V tools got it absolutely wrong. The clips are next to impossible to release - in fact, for me I have to use a wooden insert to hold one side from reclipping while I attempt to release the opposite side.
Sure it won't fall out when using the adapter, but this is way to difficult for a high quality DeWalt product.

Discharges batteries
If you leave the battery on the tool with this adapter it will discharge the battery. I have two of these and both will kill the battery if left on the tool overnight. Bad design by Dewalt.

Describe Yourself:
Leakage if left attached can ruin the battery
I, too, have discovered that DeWalt batteries left attached to this adapter will run completely down overnight. Given DeWalt's own statement that "You should stop using a battery as soon as you feel a substantial decrease in power from the tool. Completely running down a battery may damage it" ( ), this dies-while-attached behavior directly contributes to the ruination of the battery. If you suspect you will occasionally forget to detach the battery when done using the tool then this is probably not the device for you, especially given the cost of replacement batteries.
