Dewalt battery adapter
I have several 18v tools in need of battery replacement. Upgraded to 20v system with this adapter. So far, works great.

Describe Yourself:
Doesn't work well but at least it was expensive.
Disappointed again. 24v Battery charge drains very quickly when used in conjunction with the adapter and 18v tools and so far it has been impossible to remove once installed, making it useless for all the other 18v DeWalt tools i have, requiring I buy a separate for each 18v tool. Switching to Porter- Cable tools ASAP

The concept of extending our DeWalt product lifetime by using a more modern 20V battery is right on target. But whoever designed the mechanical interface to the 18V tools got it absolutely wrong. The clips are next to impossible to release - in fact, for me I have to use a wooden insert to hold one side from reclipping while I attempt to release the opposite side.
Sure it won't fall out when using the adapter, but this is way to difficult for a high quality DeWalt product.

Discharges batteries
If you leave the battery on the tool with this adapter it will discharge the battery. I have two of these and both will kill the battery if left on the tool overnight. Bad design by Dewalt.

Describe Yourself:
Leakage if left attached can ruin the battery
I, too, have discovered that DeWalt batteries left attached to this adapter will run completely down overnight. Given DeWalt's own statement that "You should stop using a battery as soon as you feel a substantial decrease in power from the tool. Completely running down a battery may damage it" ( ), this dies-while-attached behavior directly contributes to the ruination of the battery. If you suspect you will occasionally forget to detach the battery when done using the tool then this is probably not the device for you, especially given the cost of replacement batteries.

Will discharge your battery if left connected
Well, it works other than it discharging your battery completely if left in the adapter. I don’t think that should happen since you can leave your battery in your 20vlt tool with no problem. A real let down. 3 tools, 3 batteries. Makes sense yeah? Now I have to have little parts loose in the bag so the batteries will stay full.

DIscharges battery. Which tools,batteries work?
I have always loved Dewalt tools however, this is the biggest junk Dewalt has ever sold. There should be a buyback on these. The info that Dewalt provides is erroneous as to which tools and batteries work with the unit. Dewalt also doesn't explain that without removal of the battery from the adapter the adapter discharges the battery. Now I have new 6 amp batteries and new fast charger for an adapter that does not work in any of my 18 volt tools.

good tools, no straight answers
I have a large variety of 18v tools, batteries, and charger. Nowhere can I find if a new 20v tool will use my 18v batteries. Looks like any new tools will be a different brand.

Unplugged, fiddled around, placed battery pack back in, no response at all. Put battery into my Li-ion first fix nailer and it worked without issue. Have since read that these units are finicky at best. Big BLACK mark for Dewalt

The description and tech specs says it will work only with the 200 and 203 series batteries but I have the 204 series batteries, will this product work the newer series of batteries?

BEST ANSWER: I use this for my 203 series battery and it works fine.
I would think if it were more versatile they would certainly take advantage of the wider customer baseby including the 204 series in their description.
